What ground screw foundation installation involves
Ground screw foundation installation replaces the dig-and-pour cycle with a single mechanical operation. A galvanised steel screw is driven into undisturbed ground to a set depth, and the structure bolts straight onto the head plate.
Because the ground is displaced rather than removed, the surrounding soil stays compacted and there is no spoil, shuttering or curing. The bearing capacity comes from the soil the screw threads through, which is why the specification is set from the ground conditions on your site.
Who it is for
This is the right method for anything that would otherwise sit on concrete pads, strip foundations or set posts: garden buildings, decking, fencing, signage, hoardings, advertising boards and single-storey extensions.
It is also the practical choice where a dig is difficult or unwelcome: tight access, established gardens, tree roots, surfaced areas, contaminated ground, sloping plots, and sites that need to be reinstated cleanly later.
When it is needed, and why specialist installation matters
The point to call us is before anything is dug. Foundations set the programme for everything above them, so the earlier the screw layout is agreed, the earlier the frame, the building or the structure can be booked in.
It is needed whenever the ground has to carry a structure but cannot be excavated easily or cheaply: established gardens, tight side access, surfaced areas, root protection zones, sloping plots, made ground, and any site that has to be handed back unsealed.
Professional installation matters because bearing capacity comes from the soil the screw threads through, not from the screw alone. Driving to a consistent resistance, at surveyed positions and a common level, is what turns a steel screw into a foundation, and it is the part a hired driver and a guessed length cannot deliver.

Concrete foundations are the slow part of most small builds. Excavation, muck away, shuttering, pouring and curing can absorb a week or more before anything is built, and every wet day pushes it further out.
Then there is the cost that never appears in the original quote: skip hire, disposal, reinstating the lawn or driveway the digger crossed, and labour standing by while concrete goes off.
Ground screws remove that whole sequence. The foundation is installed and loaded the same day, on a fixed number of screws quoted up front.

How the screws are specified
Screw length and diameter come from the load above and the ground below. We assess soil conditions, check for services, set out the positions and choose the screw accordingly, including different types across one site where the ground changes.
Each screw is driven to a consistent resistance and set to a surveyed level, so the frame above sits true without packing. On sloping ground, screw heads are simply set at different heights to create a level plane.
Why the ground stays intact
Nothing is dug out, so the soil is never sealed and drainage across the plot is unaffected. Established planting, paving and root systems stay where they are.
It is a genuinely reversible foundation. Screws can be unwound and reused, which matters for temporary structures, rented sites and anywhere that has to be handed back as found.

Materials and equipment
The screws are hot-dip galvanised steel made from 70% recycled material, so the shaft in the ground is corrosion-protected for the life of the structure and the foundation stays a recyclable asset rather than buried waste.
Head plates and adaptors are selected for what bolts down onto them, timber bearers, steel frames, posts, sign shafts or beam shoes, so the connection is engineered rather than improvised on site.
Installation uses practical handheld driving equipment. Nothing tracks across your garden, driveway or car park, and the whole operation can be carried through a passage or a doorway to reach a back garden.
Domestic and commercial differences
On domestic work the priorities are usually access and reinstatement: keeping the garden intact, working around planting and mature trees, and leaving no spoil behind. Installations here are normally finished inside a few hours.
On commercial work the priorities are programme and risk: a foundation that takes load immediately lets hoarding, signage or a frame follow the same day, which shortens closures, possessions and site setup windows.
