What garden buildings involves
Ground screws are ideal for garden rooms and buildings of all shapes and sizes, and they save time, money and effort compared with a concrete slab or paving base.
The screws are set out to your building's bearer positions and driven to a common level. The frame bolts straight down onto the heads, clear of the ground and ventilated underneath.

When it is needed, and why specialist installation matters
The base needs to be settled before the building is ordered, because the supplier's bearer layout dictates where the screws go and a delivery date with no foundation ready is a wasted slot.
Screws are the obvious answer where a concrete base is difficult: a narrow side passage no mixer can reach, a lawn nobody wants a digger on, tree roots you are not allowed to cut, or a garden that falls away across the footprint.
Getting the foundation installed properly matters because a garden room is a timber box that only stays square if the plane under it is true. Set it on a base that settles unevenly and the doors and windows are the first things to tell you.

Level on sloping gardens
Sloping plots are where screws really earn their place. Rather than building up a slab or digging into the bank, screw heads are simply set to different heights to create one level plane.
That also keeps timber up off wet ground, with air moving underneath: better for the building than sitting it on a damp slab.
Access and reinstatement
Installation equipment is handheld and carried through, so there is no plant crossing your lawn or driveway.
If the building ever comes out, the screws unwind and the ground is left unsealed and reusable.

Base types and how screws compare
A concrete slab means excavation, spoil, shuttering, a pour and days of curing before the building can land, plus a skip on the drive and a lawn to repair afterwards.
A paving slab base is quicker but sits directly on prepared ground, so it is only ever as stable as the sub-base beneath it and it seals the soil under the building.
A screw foundation is driven into undisturbed ground, takes load the moment it is set, and holds the timber clear of wet ground with air moving underneath. Around 70% faster and cheaper to assemble than normal ground digging, and the screws can be unwound and reused if the building ever moves.
Garden offices, studios, gyms and stores
Insulated garden offices and studios are the most demanding of these, because they are heavier, carry glazing and are lived in year-round. The screw grid is set from the bearer positions and the loads they carry.
Lighter sheds, summerhouses and bike stores need fewer screws, but the same rule applies: drive to consistent resistance, set the heads to one level, and bolt the frame straight down.
Commercial variants work the same way: modular classrooms, site offices, pods and kiosks, with the added advantage that the whole foundation is removable when the unit is relocated.

Will the base be level even if my garden slopes?
Yes. Screw heads are set at different heights to give one level plane, which is usually cheaper and quicker than building up or cutting into a slope.
Can you work with my garden room supplier?
Yes. Give us the bearer layout and dimensions and we will install the foundation to suit their build.
How long does the installation take?
Most jobs are completed in a few hours, in a single visit. Larger commercial installations are programmed around your site, but there is never any curing time to wait on.
Is there any mess?
Very little. There is no excavation, no concrete and no spoil, so no skip is needed and the surrounding ground is left largely as we found it.
Will ground screws work in my soil?
Ground screws suit all soil types, even on hillsides, and different screws suit different conditions. We confirm the specification when we assess the site.
Can the foundations be removed later?
Yes. The soil is never sealed, so screws can be unwound and reused. That is one of the reasons they suit temporary and relocatable structures so well.

Yes. Ground screws are designed for installation all year round and there is no concrete to protect while it cures, so weather that would stop a dig and pour does not stop us.
